Satellites

SATELLITES is a collection of fifteen mixed media paintings on canvas and ten works on paper.

A satellite is an object in space that orbits or circles around a bigger object. This makes me picture a small group of people in an outdoor space; circling and orbiting each other and natural landmarks.

We are alive moment by moment, weaving down a trail, around a pond, and through the tall trees. We circle rocks, tracks, and the people we’re with. Landing, setting boundaries, broadcasting our finds, and calmly creating the paths of a day spent exploring.

I enjoyed painting and drawing with a variety of materials to create this series. Each type of material I use builds distinguishing results. Abstracting the scenery and blending techniques helps me find interesting forms, textures, lines, and colors.
