I was invited back to the Royal Artisan this September to show my work entitled Satellites.
My last show in this gallery, Yes, There Was Beer, was held in 2018.
It was so nice to be welcomed back!
SATELLITES is a collection of fifteen mixed media paintings on canvas and ten works on paper.
A satellite is an object in space that orbits or circles around a bigger object.
We, humans, are circling each other and objects constantly.
The group of characters involved also shifts depending on the environment. Small people (kids) around bigger people (adults). All sized people around trees, rocks, lakes, landmarks. Back and forth… you get the picture.
In nature we are alive moment by moment, weaving down a trail, around a pond, and through the tall trees. We circle rocks, tracks, and the people we’re spending time with.
These experiences are also where my ideas for titles came from with these paintings.
Landing, setting boundaries, broadcasting our finds, and calmly creating the paths of a day spent exploring.
When I’m out I like to observe location characteristics, take a lot of pictures, and try to really get the feel of the place and my time there.
Later, from my pictures, memories, and time spent painting, I work with some of those ideas and a theme develops.
Exploring nature is a constant theme of mine and these paintings are no different. Although my subject matter is consistent my approach varies as I experiment with new tools and ways to abstract visual markers and objects.
Each type of material I use builds distinguishing results. I enjoyed forming trees, foliage, skies, mountains, lakes, and people using acrylics, graphite, oil stick, spray paint, and crayon with repetition, texture, and color.
These paintings are about going on an adventure, looking for details, and finding joy together.
Not a bad way to spend some quality time.
Thank you for sharing this look at Satellites with me! You can see more details about these individual pieces and prints in my Etsy shop.
